Jon Goodbun
Dr. Jon Goodbun is an architect, theorist and writer. His work focuses on the role of systems thinking in architecture and more broadly within modern culture, drawing upon disciplines such as aesthetics, ecology, cybernetics and cognitive science, as well as the role of future scenario planning in design, and design as a form of activism within the environmental movement. He has recently edited the AD issue Scarcity: Architecture in an age of depleting resources. Goodbun teaches at the RCA, the Bartlett, and the University of Westminster. Scarcity and Creativity in the Built Environment
In this paper I will review the theoretical and practical aims of the Scarcity and Creativity in the Built Environment research project, which was awarded HERA research funding in 2010 for 3 years. The paper will examine theoretical issues around the concept of scarcity in relation to urban ecologies, and will also self-critically reflect upon the process of applying for and performing funded research in academia.
